Catholic bioethicsperth (formerly the L J Goody Bioethics Centre) was founded in 1985 as an agency of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Perth, Western Australia, under the guidance of its first Director, Fr William Uren SJ.

In 1990 the Centre moved to its present location in Mt Hawthorn, WA, under its second Director, Fr Walter Black MSC PhD where it established itself as a trusted resource accessed by church, government, education and business sectors in Western Australia.  It developed a strong tradition of professional and personal ethics advice supported by tailored pastoral care.

In order to deliver more of its services in online mode while retaining in-person service where required, the centre adopted its new name, structure and operating model in January 2022 under present Director, Fr Joseph Parkinson STL PhD.

Catholic bioethicsperth assists a number of clinical and research ethics committees in the public and private healthcare sectors, and  will continue to deliver services both online and in person.  The library, meeting and lecture facilities will remain accessible when required to meet the service’s new Mandate.
